Hazards

Routes of Entry: Inhalation:YES Skin:YES Ingestion:YES
Reports of Carcinogenicity:NTP:NO IARC:NO OSHA:NO
Health Hazards Acute and Chronic:ACUTE-CAN CAUSE EYE BURNS.IRRITANT TO
SKIN,EYES AND OTHER MUCOUS MEMBRANES.INGESTION:POTENTIALLY
LETHAL.INGESTION OF 50-100 MG NACN/KCN MAY BE LETHAL (I.E. USING CN
EQUIVALENT OF 0.02 FL OZ OF SILVER COATALYTE 316).CHRONIC-LOSS OF
APPETITE,HEADACHE,WEAKNESS,AND/OR IRRITATION OF EYES/RESPIRATORY
TRACT.
Explanation of Carcinogenicity:NO COMPONENT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS
CARCINOGEN.
Effects of Overexposure:CYANIDE
EXPOSURE:WEAKNESS,DIZZINESS,CONFUSION,HEADACHE,VOMITING,
SKIN/MUCOUS MEMBRANE IRRITATION.IN THE EXTREME CASE, CYANOSIS,
UNCONSCIOUSNESS AND DEATH.CYANIDE DISRUPTS THE OXIDATIVE
MECHANISM;SKIN MAY LOOK HEALTHY BUT WITH INJURY/LACK OF OXYGEN MAY
BE BLUISH.PROMPT ACTION IS NEEDED TO PREVENT FURTHER INJURY/DEATH.
Medical Cond Aggravated by Exposure:CHRONIC SKIN,
RESPIRATORY/PULMONARY, AND CERTAIN BLOOD AND CNS DISORDERS MAY
INCREASE SUSCEPTIBILITY TO THE EFFECTS OF CYANIDES AND HYDROXIDES.

First Aid

First Aid:CALL A PHYSICIAN/POISON CONTROL CENTER.INHALATION:REMOVE TO
FRESH AIR.GIVE CPR IF NEEDED.EYE:IMMEDIATELY FLUSH EYES WITH WATER
FOR 15 MINUTES.SKIN:IMMEDIATELY WASH WITH SOAP & WATER.INGESTION:IF
CONSC IOUS,GIVE WATER & INDUCE VOMITING.KEEP HEAD BELOW HIPS TO
PREVENT ASPIRATION.IF UNCONSCIOUS FROM EFFECTS OF CYANIDE,USE AMYL
NITRITE & OXYGEN.

Fire Fighting

Flash Point:NONE
Extinguishing Media:AVOID CO2 OR ACID-BASED EXTINGUISHERS IN CONFINED
AREA BECAUSE THEY MAY REACT WITH SPILLED MATERIAL TO PRODUCE HCN.
Fire Fighting Procedures:FIRE FIGHTERS SHOULD USE NIOSH APPROVED SCBA &
CHEMICAL RESISTANT CLOTHING. IF MATERIAL IS FREE TO MIX WITH
WATER,MIXING MAY RESULT IN TOXIC WATER RUNOFF.
Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazard:CONTACT WITH ACID/ACID SALTS CAN RELEASE
HCN.WITH EXTREME HEATING BEYOND DRYNESS,DECOMPOSITION OF RESIDUE
CAN YIELD NITROUS OXIDES,CYANIDES AND TOXIC FUMES.

Accidental Release

Spill Release Procedures:EVACUATE AND VENTILATE AREA.WEAR PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING.CONTAIN/ABSORB SPILL WITH INERT MATERIAL.TRANSFER TO A
CONTAINER FOR DISPOSAL.CLEAN THE AREA WITH MILD HYPOCHLORITE
(BLEACH,ETC.) AND WATER SOLUTIO N. DO NOT FLUSH CYANIDES INTO
SEWERS.
Neutralizing Agent:HYPOCHLORITE

Handling

Handling and Storage Precautions:DO NOT MIX WITH OTHER CHEMICALS.KEEP
CONTAINERS TIGHTLY SEALED.
Other Precautions:DO NOT GET IN EYES/SKIN.DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY.KEEP
AWAY FROM CHILDREN.WORK IN A WELL VENTILATED PLACE. DO NOT STORE
NEAR COMBUSTIBLE/FLAMMABLE MATERIALS. AS A STRONG POISON, CYANIDES
SHOULD BE HANDLE D BY RESPONSIBLE PERSONS.

Exposure Controls

Respiratory Protection:USE NIOSH/MSHA APPROVED DUST/MIST RESPIRATOR AS
NECESSARY.
Ventilation:LOCAL EXHAUST VENTILATION IS REQUIRED.
Protective Gloves:RUBBER
Eye Protection:SAFETY CHEMICAL GOGGLES & FACE SHIELD
Other Protective Equipment:EYE WASH STATION & SAFETY SHOWER.RUBBER
APRONS/SUITS.
Work Hygienic Practices:KEEP AWAY FROM EYES AND OUT OF OPEN WOUNDS.WASH
HANDS AFTER USE.
