Hazards

Routes of Entry: Inhalation:YES Skin:YES Ingestion:YES
Health Hazards Acute and Chronic:AS A NARCOTIC GAS OR INTOXICANT CAUSES
HYPERCAPNIA. REPEATED EXPOSURES TO TOLERABLE LEVELS HAS NOT
SHOWN DELETERIOUS EFFECTS. THE MAJOR PROPERTY IS THE EXCLUSION OF
AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF OXYGE N TO THE LUNGS.
Effects of Overexposure:INHALATION: LOW CONCENTRATIONS (10-20% IN AIR)
CAUSE SYMPTOMS SIMILAR TO THAT OFBEING INTOXICATED. HIGHER
CONCENTRATIONS SO AS TO EXCLUDE AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF OXYGEN TO THE
LUNGS CAUSE UNCONSCIOUSNES S.

First Aid

First Aid:PROMPT MEDICAL ATTENTION IS MANDATORY IN ALL CASES OF
OVEREXPOSURE TO ACETYLENE.RESCUE PERSNL SHOULD BE EQUIPPED
W/SELFCONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS.INHL:QUICK REMOVAL TO FRESH AIR
& FROM CONTAMINATED AREA IS MOST IMPORTANT. UNCONSCIOUSPERSON
SHOULD BE GIVEN MOUTH TO MOUTH RESUSCITATION & SUPPLEMENTAL OXYGEN.
FURTHER TREATMENT SHOULD BE SYMPTOMATIC AND SUPPORTIVE.

Fire Fighting

Flash Point:GAS
Autoignition Temp:Autoignition Temp Text:****
Lower Limits:80-85
Upper Limits:2.2
Extinguishing Media:CARBON DIOXIDE, DRY CHEMICAL
Fire Fighting Procedures:STOP FLOW OF ESCAPING GAS IF POSSIBLE. USE
WATER SPRAY TO COOL SURROUNDING CONTAINERS. KEEP PERSONNEL
AWAY SINCE HEATED OR BURNING CYLINDERS CAN RUPTURE.
Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazard:REQUIRES A VERY LOW IGNITION ENERGY SO
THAT FIRES WHICH HAVE BEEN EXTINGUISHED W/O STOPPING FLOW OF GAS
CAN EASILY REIGNITE W/POSSIBLE EXPLOSIVE FORCE.

Accidental Release

Spill Release Procedures:EVACUATE ALL PERSONNEL FROM AFFECTED AREA. USE
APPROPRIATE PROTECTIVE EQUIP.IF LEAK IS IN USER'S EQUIP BE
CERTAIN TO PURGE PIPING W/INERT GAS PRIORTO ATTEMPTING REPAIRS.IF
LEAK IS IN CONTAINER OR VALVE,CONTACT CLOSEST SUPPLIER LOCATION.

Handling

Handling and Storage Precautions:USE SUITABLE HANDTRUCK FOR CYLINDER
MOVEMENT.STOREIN COOL,DRY AREA AWAY FORM HEAVY TRAFFICKED AREAS.DO
NOT ALLOW TEMPERATURE TO EXCEED 130F.
Other Precautions:EARTH GROUND & BOND ALL LINES & EQUIP W/ACETYLENE
SYSTEM. FULL & EMPTY CYLINDER SHOULD BE SEGREATED. CYLINDERS SHOULD
BE STORED UPRIGHT AND FIRMLY SECURED TO PREVENT FALLING. THERE
SHOULD BE NO SOUR CE OF IGNITION IN STORAGE OR USE AREA.

Exposure Controls

CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR
EMERGENCY USE.
