Reports of Carcinogenicity:NTP:YES IARC:YES OSHA:YES
Health Hazards Acute and Chronic:EXPOSURE TO DUSTS OF ASBESTOS, SILICA,
TALC, GRAPHITE, CARBON & COAL CAN LEAD TO CHRONIC LUNG DISEASES
SUCH AS ASBESTOSIS OR OTHER FORMS OF PNEUMOCONIOSIS. IN SEVERE
CASES THESE DISEASES CAN BE FATAL. EXPOSURE TO THESE DUSTS MAY
ALSO LEAD TO NONDISABLING CONDITIONS KNOWN AS PLEURAL THICKENING,
PLAQUES & CALCIFICATION.
Explanation of Carcinogenicity:NTP, IARC AND OSHA HAVE FOUND THAT
ASBESTOS CAN CAUSE CANCER IN HUMANS. SMOKING GREATLY INCREASES THE
RISK OF CANCER.
Effects of Overexposure:SYMPTOMS OF ASBESTOSIS, PNEUMOCONIOSIS, AND
LUNG CANCER INCLUDE SHORTNESS OF BREATH, DRY COUGH, FATIGUE ON
EXERCISE, CHEST PAINS, CHEST TIGHTNESS, CLUBBING OF FINGERS, AND
VAGUE FEELINGS OF SICKNESS. SUCH SYMPTOMS DO NOT USUALLY MANIFEST
THEMSELVES UNTIL 15 TO 20 YEARS AFTER FIRST EXPOSURE.
Medical Cond Aggravated by Exposure:PERSONS WITH PRE-EXISTING
RESPIRATORY DISEASE MAY BE AT INCREASED RISK FROM EXPOSURE TO
AIRBORNE ASBESTOS FIBERS. SMOKERS MAY BE AT INCREASED RISK FROM
EXPOSURE TO AIRBORNE ASBESTOS FIBERS.
First Aid
First Aid:INHALATION: REMOVE TO FRESH AIR. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION. SKIN:
WASH EXPOSED AREA WITH SOAP AND WATER. GET MEDICAL ADVICE IF

WITH COMPRESSED AIR. AVOID SCRAPING OR SCRATCHING BRAKE LININGS OR
OTHERWISE CREATING DUST DURING ASSEMBLY.
Other Precautions:MOLDED ASBESTOS COMPOSITION FRICTION LININGS DO NOT
PRESENT A HAZARD. ONLY WHEN THE PARTS ARE PLACED IN SERVICE ARE THE
ASBESTOS FIBERS RELEASED. DO NOT BREATH AIRBORN ASBESTOS DUST.
ISOLATE AND LAUND ER CONTAMINATED CLOTHING BEFORE REUSE.
Exposure Controls
Respiratory Protection:EXPOSURE TO AIRBORNE ASBESTOS SHALL NOT EXCEED
0.2 F/CC TWA. IF EXPOSURE IS LESS THAN 50 TIMES THE PEL, USE A FULL
FACE-PIECE NIOSH/MSHA APPROVED RESPIRATORS WITH A HEPA FILTER FOR
ASBESTOS. MAKE SELE CTIONS I/A/W 29CFR1910.1001 & 1910.1101.
